It’s interesting how we seem to have so many problems, so many dilemmas. But most of the time the answer to solving them is doing nothing. Giving up.

I do not have a regular program. I not need one.

I do, however, have routines on which I focus every day.

To eliminate worry when there are real problems, try to confront them head-on, and resolve them quickly. I once had to sue someone over a business matter, and I was worrying about it for weeks. When I finally just filed the papers, got on the phone, and came to an agreement, my stress was gone. Actually, my worrying began to dissipated as soon as I started acting, BEFORE the resolution (See #1).

There is more mental pain and worry in anticipating problems than in the problems themselves. If you lost a thousand dollars in the stock market last year, you probably suffer less from that today than you would from wondering if you’ll make it on time to a concert you paid $50 for. The anticipation of problems is what causes the most worry. Just deal with them head on as soon as is possible, and resolve them to the extent possible.

5. Meditate to eliminate worry.

Meditating is a great way to relax and to stop worrying, but what if you don’t have the time for more involved meditative practices? Don’t worry. Just try this: close your eyes, let the tension out of your body and take several deep breaths through your nose. That’s it. Want even easier meditation? Try brain wave entrainment CDs that do all the work for you. Just pop on the headphones and they’ll relax you by slowing your brain waves.

Try the above techniques. Make habits out of whichever ones work best to stop your worries. They need to be habits because nothing works if you forget to use it. In fact, until they become habitual, you may want to carry a list of your favorite techniques for eliminating worry.

Truths That Will Improve Your Life

They say life is what we make of it. By the end of this post, I hope to have helped you decide whether that statement is true or not.

There is no doubt that life has its ups and downs. However, how we deal with them can sometimes make all the difference. Today I want to share eight truths that I’ve come to learn from life. There’s also a message in each that I think we can all learn from, and when applied, will improve our lives infinitely.Some of these lessons may be old-hat for you. If so, look for ways to refine the idea to ensure your getting the most out of it. On the other hand, you may completely disagree with an idea or two and that’s great! Let us know your thoughts so we can all learn from each other.

    • Friends Come and Go
      When I was in high school, I always imagined spending most of my life with the same people. Then when I realized I had to move to college, that all changed. Once again, I made some close college friends but left them all behind when I moved from the UK to South Africa.Friends will always come and go in your life; even though I’m back in the UK now, all my friends are in university around the country and not exactly in meeting distance. It can be a hard thing to accept, but many of the friends you spend time with now, might not be around in the next few years.Important Lesson: There are an abundance of amazing people out there for you to meet and build relationships with. If you don’t have many friends, don’t stress, there are literally billions of friendship possibilities.
    • You Won’t Always Get What You Want
      I remember one Christmas when the only thing I had asked for was some second hand turntables for DJ’ing. I didn’t ask for anything else so I was pretty sure I would get them. However, they didn’t come and I ended up having to save for 10 months on my own in order to purchase them.You won’t always get what you want in life: people are going to be late, people will let you down, items you want won’t always be available.Important Lesson: Don’t look for happiness in material possessions and if things don’t go your way, learn to accept them. Life’s too short to stay miserable.
    • Many People Will Love You, but Many Will Not
      Whether you are a celebrity, a charity worker or just a normal guy, there are going to be people that love you and what you do, but there’s also going to be plenty people that don’t like you. There are many possible reasons such as jealousy, similarities to them, or just not being someone’s ‘type’.Important Lesson: Not everyone is always going to like you, and that’s fine. If people want to spend time talking about you then that is their problem. You are perfect as you are. You shouldn’t need everyone to like you to have some form of self-esteem.
    • Nobody Can Transform Your Life Like You Can
      Wouldn’t it be lovely if we didn’t have to go up on stage, but we could just read a paragraph of a blog post and become a perfect public speaker? Or, wouldn’t it be nice if our friends could do daring things, and we would benefit from them as well?The support and help of others can only take you so far, you’re going to have to do your own thing to make big changes in your life situation.Important Lesson: Do things for yourself and learn to stand on your own two feet. People you rely on won’t be around forever, and you don’t want to have to use others as a crutch to get anywhere in life.
    • You Are Going to Fail
      I built more than 7 websites before I created one that actually started making me any money. I even put hundreds of hours into my own company that I actually closed down last month. Whether it is exams, projects, companies, or even the odd pub quiz, there are times when you will fail to meet your goals.As the saying goes – “Only those who are asleep make no mistakes”.Important Lesson: You can learn a lot from others, but it is your own failures that are going to teach you the most valuable lessons in life. Learn from your failures, embrace them, and use them to drive you on to success.
    • Rain Will Sometimes Cancel Play
      On some occasions when you have your shorts on and you’re ready for the beach, it’s going to rain. Or, when you get to that first hole and you’re ready to tee off – the clouds will open. Things aren’t always going to go how you would like them to.Important Lesson: Don’t stress about the things that you can’t control. Learn to live with things that happen. You can’t change the past, but you can change how you react to things.
    • There May Be No Tomorrow
      At least, not for you anyway. We never know what is around the corner, a car crash, a heart attack; heck…even the end of the world is possible. Let’s face it, although we would all like to live till we are 70 years old, that’s certainly not always the case. There will be one day that is our last.Important Lesson: Make the most of each day. Make sure the people you care about actually know it, don’t worry about little matters, just make sure you spend time doing the things you love.
    • Someone Else Will Always Have More 

Whether it is money, partners, friends or even blog subscribers, there will always be areas where other people have more than you. That isn’t to say you can’t become abundant in whatever you want (i.e. someone always had more money than Warren Buffett until 2008 when he was noted to be the richest man in the world).The wanting of more actually holds a very important lesson…Important Lesson: Just because someone has ‘more’, that doesn’t mean they are happy. Read the biography of any celebrity and they will tell you they enjoy their process of earning money, rather than what money can do to make them happy. In other words, focus on what you love, not what the thing you love can get you.

The Daily Reminder

In a cluttered world full of anxiety and stress, it’s easy to feel like we’re carrying the weight of the world in our shoulders.  We fill in every line of our schedules and rush from one activity to another.  Like a time to rest is the most forbidden activity.  Then we ask ourselves why our life is so stressful and hard.

With all the stress that this fast-paced environment we live in, the key is to take a moment to think back and remind yourself of these simple truths,

It may not finish your task, but it will change how you approach it.

1)  Remind yourself that… you’re unique and one of a kind.

That you were created to make a mark in this life and not just born to survive.

2)  Remind yourself that… your presence is a present to the world.

You may not realize it but one way or another, someone feels so blessed with your existence.  So stop saying you’re nobody.

3)  Remind yourself that… your life can be just what you want it to be.

Most of life is a choice, having the freedom to act and decide on your own.  Start deciding and stop complaining.

4)  Remind yourself to… take the days just one at a time.

Rushing isn’t all beneficial.  Take time to smell the flowers.  Don’t over do yourself.  Learn to appreciate life today, for tomorrow, you may not have the chance to do so.

5)  Remind yourself to… count your blessings not your troubles.

There are two types of a person, a proactive and a reactive.  The reactive always see the trouble and blame the circumstance to other people, while proactive see troubles as a bridge to success.  What are you?

6)  Remind yourself that… within you are so many answers.

One of the big disadvantages of a hurried lifestyle is the lack of meditation or reflection.    We are too busy, too preoccupied.  But if you really want to find true happiness in this life, you have to be still, to quiet your mind.. so you can hear your heart.

7)  Remind yourself to… understand, have courage, be strong.

Knowing that life is imperfect gives you enough space to expect it to be hard.  You have to accept that life’s circumstance is not ALWAYS within our control and all you can do is accept, understand and to keep moving forward.

Life is 99% choice and 1% chance.

8)  Remind yourself that… you’ll make it through whatever comes along.

In times of affliction, it can be tough to see the lighter side.  But do always remember, that all storms have endings.  Just keep looking forward.

9)  Remind yourself that… there are so many dreams waiting to be realized.

A goal without action is nothing but a dream.

It’s very good to know what you want and set your plans.  However, if it’s only written, it can’t be realized.  You have to take action.  You have to wake up and stand up.

10)  Remind yourself that… decisions are too important to leave to chance.

Remember, life is 99% choice and 1% chance.

We are in control of our life 99% of the time and yet a lot of us give this all to chances.  We let things happen instead of making it happen.

11)  Remind yourself to… do not put limits on yourself.

One of the differences between achievers and non-achievers is the size of their dreams.  Big people achieve big dreams because they think big.  The same is true to small people.  They achieve smaller dreams because they think small.

The key is to have confidence in oneself and think BIG!

12) Remind yourself that… nothing wastes more energy than worrying.

Worry is a complete waste of energy.  Even how much you think about it over and over, it will not solve anything.  Worry gives you nothing but bad feelings.

Instead of investing your time thinking of the problem, shift your thoughts on how you can solve it.

13) Remind yourself that.. the longer you carry a problem, the heavier it gets.

When faced with bad situations or problems, a lot of us leave it behind undecided.  We may think that the safest solution is leaving it to chances.

However, indecision does not solve the problem, it just gives you temporary relief.  But sooner or later, you will feel its impact.  Most of the time, it’s bigger than the original.

Don’t avoid problems, instead, be braved enough to face and solve it so you can move forward it life.  Stop being a coward!

14)  Remind yourself to… Live a life of serenity, not regrets

People who seldom succeed in life are those who live in the shadow of the past.

They cling too much of what they used to have that they seldom adapt and move forward in life.

Remember that you can no longer alter what happened in the past but you can create your future.  Accept what happened and move on.

15)  Remind yourself to… do ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

Everyday, you do the same thing, like a cycle that just goes round and round.  You get too lax that you find life too boring.

But instead of focusing on the negative feeling of boredom, why not take charge and create a change.

Sometimes, change does not only happen by surprise.  You have the capacity to create change.  And why not do it now?  Who knows, it will give you the big break you’ve been dreaming of.

16)  Remind yourself to… not take yourself too seriously.

Because no one else does.

The only person that’s burdened when you are too serious is you.  Keep a mature mind but a young heart.  Smile, you look better when you do.

17) Remind yourself that… friendship is a wise investment.

True friendship lasts forever.  You may not see them often but when friendship is true, even how time and distance separates you, true friends are the one that stays with you.

If you found this type of friends, care and treasure them.  For it’s one of the best gifts you will ever receive in your life.

18) Remind yourself to… reach for your peak, your goal, your prize

As long as you’re alive, you have all the chance to achiever your goal.

Don’t get discourage by past failures.  Keep striving.

Remember, success comes from multiple failures.  Those who win have finished the race.

19)  Remind yourself to… take time to wish upon a star.

Have faith with your dreams until you achieve it.

Nothing is impossible when you believe.

20) Remind yourself that… it’s never too late.

Often times we resist change because we think that it’s too late for us to change.

Remember that we all have countless chances in this life.  You just have to accept change.

For a final world, in our world full of clutter and negative things, we need something daily to overcome the stress and hardship that life brings.  May the list remind you of these simple truths of life.

Killer of your Concentration.!

In today’s fast-paced world, we need to do a lot, in a very short time. Fast paced life, decreased day span, partitioned lives; that’s what one can summarize a person, now a days. Another side effect of this hectic lifestyle is reduced or scattered concentration. How many of us have picked up a long-pending novel, only to put down once we see, how thick it is? Does the 10-sec commercial during your favorite serial, annoy you and make you flip channels like a fish out of water? Let’s see which of your habits are killing your concentration?

Social Media


With so much information available online, it is one of the top concentration killers. You log in to just check 1 email, and before you know, you have Facebook, SU, LinkedIn and everything else dancing on those multiple tabs. It’s easy to connect with friends — and disconnect from work — many times an hour. Every status update zaps your train of thought, forcing you to backtrack when you resume your work.

Managing social media & your work

Make a note on your desktop, to remind you frequently, to avoid logging in to social media sites while you’re working. If you feel compelled to check in every now and then, do it during breaks, when the steady stream of posts won’t interrupt your concentration. If you can’t resist logging in more frequently, simply disconnect the internet cable, till you finish your work.

Email Overload


There’s, definitely, something about an email – Once you are notified, if just has to be replied! Although many emails are work-related, they still count as distractions from your current project. You won’t make much progress if you constantly stop what you’re doing to reply to every message.

Don’t let email dictate your schedule

Carve out specific hours during the day to reply to emails, instead of checking email continuously. During the rest of the day, you can actually shut down your email program, to give you uniterrupted working hours.

Cellphones


You decide, what is more alluring? The ping of an email or the ring-tone on your cell phone. It’s a sound few of us can ignore. But taking a call not only costs you the time you spend talking – it can also cut off your momentum on the task at hand.

Stop the ringing

Ever heard of caller id? All cellphones have it. If you suspect the call is not urgent, let it go to voice-mail. If you need peace and quiet, use the silence mode. Like email, chose a few minutes a day to answer to voice-mails. Listening to all your messages at once, will definitely, be less disruptive than taking every call as it comes in.

Multitasking


Yes, we all think, finishing your emails with a cup of coffee and bagels is a pat on the back, But did you notice, the increased number of typos in that reply or those tiny little coffee splatters on the white shirt? Getting more done is not always wise. Research suggests you lose time whenever you shift your attention from one task to another. The end result is that doing three projects simultaneously usually takes longer than doing them one after the other.

Make it an habit to devote time for 1 project at a time, particularly if you’re working on an intense or high-priority task. Save your multitasking skills for chores that are not urgent or demanding — it probably won’t hurt to tidy up your desk while talking on the phone.

It is important to notice how one leads and is responsible for the other. Once you have too much on your plate, it can be hard to focus on individual tasks. To make matters worse, stress takes a noticeable toll on the body. You may develop tight shoulders, headaches, or a racing heart, all of which can chip away at your ability to concentrate. With seeming failure at all corners, depression is bound to set in, leading to more stress.

Don’t fear therapy or treatment

Most people tend to think of sadness or anger as the hallmark of depression, but experts say difficulty concentrating is one of the most common symptoms. Depression is highly treatable with the help of anti-depressants and consultation. Similarly, try using Yoga or meditation to reduce stress. Hunger


The brain can’t focus without fuel, so skipping meals – especially breakfast – is a top concentration killer. Research indicates short-term memory and attention suffer when you rise and shine but do not dine.

Keep fueling yourself

Always eat breakfast and try your best to have lunch too, even if it means, at your desk. Keep high-protein snacks (cheese, nuts) in your drawer or bag, when the hunger pangs strike and you have no time! Avoid simple carbohydrates (sweets, white pasta) as they make you lethargic, instead go for complex carbohydrates (whole grains) for instant energy.

Medication


Unknown to you, many drugs like medications used to treat depression can interfere with concentration. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to check if a medication or supplement you are taking may be affecting your concentration.

Talk with your physician

If you suspect your medicines are clouding your concentration, don’t assume there are no other options. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dosage or switching to a different class of medication.

Losing concentration is a very common phenomenon these days, so don’t stress yourself out. With some research and proper lifestyle changes, you can find yourself working efficiently, at work and at home.

Life is a journey. As you go along your journey, set your maps. Discover the right you at the right place and time. To help you discover, ask yourself, “If there was no praise or criticism in the world, then who would you be?”

Once you know the answer, you are right there.

Do not live for yourself alone; remember that there are other people and creatures that surrounding this world.  Even if unaware, every move and action you take creates an effect to others.

Being happy is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves and others. In days gone by happiness wasn’t always top of peoples agendas and today some people still think happiness is a flimsy pursuit. Everyone has different world views and of course is entitled to their own opinion but more and more I am coming to believe happiness is one of the most important things in life for ourselves and the world around us.

Find Out What Makes You Happy

What makes you happy will probably be different to what makes the next person happy. Getting to know yourself and your authentic desires is important. We are constantly inundated with messages about how we should be living our lives. Society, advertising and other people’s opinions can all be a strong influence. Do whatever it takes to get in touch with your own voice. Meditation, spending time alone and writing are ways that I have found effective. You may have different ways. Finding ways to get in touch with your own voice is part of the process of getting to know yourself.

Follow Your Bliss

As you start to get in touch with what makes you happy, learn to follow those instincts. I was born just outside London . I love London, but deep down I always felt like I would enjoy country living more than city life. I didn’t know if I would enjoy this in reality as I hadn’t lived in the country side before, but a couple of years ago I took the leap and left London to live in the countryside (and near the sea ). I never looked back; I love where I live now. At times in London I wondered if I was running away or always looking for something else but deep down I know these desires were the authentic whisperings of my soul and I am really glad I listened to them.

Happiness Isn’t Selfish

Sometimes people think being happy is selfish. It isn’t! The more we can be happy with our own lives the more difference we can make to others. For a start, happy people are nicer to be around than unhappy ones! Happiness spreads. You can make more difference to others when you are happy. You are then coming from a place of power. Authentic happiness doesn’t take anything away from anyone else. There is no shortage of happiness in the world. We don’t need to feel guilty for being happy or suppress it because someone else isn’t happy. If someone else is unhappy it is important to stay centered. Taking on their unhappiness will only drag both of you down. We can be sympathetic and understanding without losing our own center.

Allow Happiness

I have often read that we need to allow happiness rather than strive or try to create it. I think this makes a lot of sense. Happiness is our natural state. Our thoughts, anxieties, bad habits and day to day concerns can get in the way but we can learn to remove blockages and let happiness in and allow it. Emotional Freedom Technique is a great way to remove blockages and move past negativity. Happiness Is In The Present

As the quote at the beginning of this article points out, there is no way to happiness; happiness is the way. Our mind tries to convince us at times that when we get this new purchase or new relationship we will be happy, however happiness is in the here and now. We don’t need to do anything to be happy. We need tobe happy. Of course this doesn’t mean we don’t need to ever do anything or strive for anything. As I shared above, I wanted to live in the countryside and following that desire has made me feel good and in alignment with my desires. It can seem hard to be happy when we want to be somewhere else, but if we try and release anxiety and trust the process whilst being happy we are more likely to get where we want to be. Like attracts like.

Some Useful Key for a Wonderful Day

Yeah, I know this stuff is obvious, but sometimes we need to be reminded of the obvious.We need to be hit in the face with it so we will do something about it.

  • Cut the rest of the world some slack  I put this number one because I can think of no better way to chill out and enjoy yourself than just giving it a break.  Who cares what anyone else is doing or how they are doing it or why they are doing it?  I don’t.
  • Cut yourself some slack.  Give yourself the same break you need to give everyone else.  You don’t have to be perfect.  The food doesn’t have to be perfect.  The place settings don’t have to be perfect.  Your house doesn’t have to be spotless.  Don’t try to impress yourself or anyone else.
  • Take it easy.  Don’t hurry or rush.  Do everything in a relaxed easy going manner.  Don’t tense yourself up no matter what it is your are doing.  Athletes that stay relaxed run faster, swim faster, and move with less effort and more grace.  There is something wonderful about slowing down and taking it easy.   In the words of Foghat – Slow ride, take it easy.  Smile
  • Do something for the pure enjoyment of it.  To some of you this may be a radical concept but give it a try.  It doesn’t have to be productive.  It doesn’t have to have a pay off at some future time.  It doesn’t have to please anyone else.  It just has to be fun for you.
  • Do something with wonderful people.  If you can combine doing something for the pure enjoyment of it with spending time with wonderful people you might just find your little slice of heaven.  There is almost nothing better than spending time with wonderful, positive people.
  • Play Your Favorite Music.  The other night I went to a local bar with some wonderful people for the pure enjoyment of it.  We played our favorite music from days gone by.  I remember nothing else about that day.
  • Turn off the TV and don’t read any news.  The odds of being exposed to something that makes you feel good is about 1 in 10.
  • Avoid Toxic People.  I know sometimes you just can’t, but at least try.  If your toxic mother in-law comes over for the holidays, first cut her some slack. Then go somewhere in the house she isn’t.  Go to a movie with your sister.  You can find some way to avoid toxic people if you try.  If you can’t then just pretend like they aren’t even there.
  • Eat food you absolutely love.  This shouldn’t be difficult this time of year.  Take it easy because you just remember the last bite anyway.  Don’t stuff yourself or you will find yourself thinking about how bad you feel instead of how good it was.  Seriously, you should eat, drink, and be merry!
  • Make remembering the wonderful things you did the last thing you do before going to bed.

How to Boost Your Willpower

When you do what you love to do, you feel as if you could do it all day long. It’s as if doing it takes almost no will power on your part. But unfortunately, the reality is that you’re not going to love doing everything you have to do in life.

For example, I don’t love doing my taxes, eating healthy, or exercising daily. But I know these are things that I have to do. And to do them requires will power on my part. So here are a few things I do to increase my will power for the tasks that seemingly take every last ounce of it:

Use Your Will Power: Think of will power as a muscle. When you first start lifting weights, lifting 15 pound dumbbells may be exhausting for you. But over time as your muscles grow stronger (and you start lifting heavier weights), you’ll be able to lift those 15 pound dumbbells without even breaking a sweat.

Don’t Overindulge: Have you ever noticed that when you eat too much, drink too much, sleep too much, and have sex too much you end up feeling lazy? This happens because when the brain gets too much dopamine, it releases prolactin to balance things out. And as a result, it makes us dopamine deficient. Symptoms of dopamine deficiency include depression, procrastination and a lack of ambition.

Proper Diet & Exercise: Studies have shown that proper diet and exercise can help reduce stress and depression and it even lifts your mood. Like they say, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. And you need that to increase your will power.

Break Things Down: Have you ever looked a hill from far away? They always look bigger from a distance. But as you go up step by step, the hill most often isn’t as big as you had originally thought.

The same thing goes for the goals or tasks you wish to accomplish. Looking at what you want to accomplish without breaking it down into small steps can be intimidating. So much so that it can lower your confidence to the point where you decide (before you even try to do it) that you will fail and it would be a waste of your efforts (or your will power).

Realize You Want It: Like I said earlier, there are things we feel like we haveto do that we may not love doing. But if you look at what you have to do at a deeper level, you’ll realize that you actually want to do it. For example, haveto do my taxes because I want to stay out of trouble. Or I have to exercise and eat healthy because I want to to feel great about myself.

Figure out why you want to do whatever you feel like you have to do, and focus on that instead of complaining about it. When you tell yourself why want to do a thing, you start feeling more motivated to actually do it.

Like I said in the begging of this post, when you do what you love to do you feel as if you could do it all day long using little to no will power. So while you may not love to physically do certain things in life (like taxes and eating salads), realize that you love the result it ultimately will bring you and focus on that.

Can you recall the last time you were in an emotional slump, such that your beliefs in yourself and your abilities were slipping away? How can we maintain the beliefs we have in ourselves, such that we can live with less anxiety and more joy?

Just imagine the things we would accomplish if we had the belief that we could do absolutely anything, especially if we could maintain a level of self-esteem that no circumstance could shake. What would you be doing?

Self-esteem comes from positive self-imaging, and it is something that we proactively build for ourselves. Self-esteem doesn’t happen while we wait passively. When we leave it up to external factors, we build our self-esteem on sandy ground. What we want is a rock-solid foundation, and this only comes from building it within.

Throughout our daily routines, our minds are very good at picking up all the things we’ve done wrong, and it makes sure we are aware of them. With such a counter-productive force at work, we can benefit greatly by regularly working towards establishing and building our own self image.

I’ve learned that the way we view ourselves directly affects everything we do. People with high self-esteem get along easily with others, rarely get sick, and seem to have high energy reserves. Also, their high level of self-esteem corresponds with their high level of productivity, capacity of happiness and state of well-being.

A Closer Look

Self-esteem = how much we like ourselves.

How much we like ourselves = level of self-dominion.

What is self-dominion? It is our ability to get ourselves to actually do, what we want ourselves to do; in other words, self-discipline and self-trust.

A person who has dominion over themselves has self-integrity – staying true to their words and commitments.

Every time we fail to listen to our inner voice, and do not take action in something that we need to, we lose trust with ourselves and our abilities. This lack of self faith continues to spiral downwardly as we flounder to fulfill more commitments.

Turning Point: How to Start Building Self-Esteem

Most of us are familiar with the concept of momentum. When we do something well, regardless of how small the task, we build positive energy and momentum, which can fuel other tasks on our list.

For example, if you have just washed all the dishes, mowed the lawn, and made calls to all of your clients, it will be easier for you – psychologically – to quickly move on to and complete the next task. You will have built the momentum necessary to getting things done, and you are simply riding on that energy and building on previous successes.

On the flip side, when we put off what we want to do or know we should do, we lose momentum, and more importantly, we lose trust in ourselves.

Another way to view this is to pretend we have a personal assistant. The better they perform on the tasks assigned to them, the more confident we will feel towards their abilities to handle responsibility. Gradually, we will assign more important tasks to them as trust is established. We now have faith in their abilities to follow through. We trust them.

Conversely, if our assistant procrastinates and misses deadlines regularly, we will lose faith in their abilities to follow through. We stop trusting them. We stop giving them tasks (at least the important ones), and we start to look for a replacement assistant.

Now, think of ourselves as our own assistant. The more we follow through with actions, the more confidence and trust we’ll establish with ourselves. We will then gain faith in our ability to take on more tasks.

The small wins with ourselves, directly affect how much we like ourselves. Each time we successfully follow through, the experience becomes a building block towards a more positive self image.

13 Tips to Building Self-Esteem

In order to build your self-esteem, you must establish yourself as the master of your own life. Every single minute of your life is a moment you can change for the better.

If you’ve been delaying some action for half the day, don’t dwell on it or beat yourself up for it, shift your focus to the present moment and what you can do rightnow. Start with the smallest or the most important task.

The following are tips to help build continuous upward momentum towards higher self esteem.

1. Start Small

Start with something you can do immediately and easily. When we start with small successes, we build momentum to gain more confidence in our abilities. Each completed task, regardless of how small, is a building block towards a more confident you. What are some small actions you can take immediately to demonstrate that you are capable of achieving goals you’ve set for yourself? For example, clean your desk, organize your papers, or pay all your bills.

2. Create a Compelling Vision

Use the power of your imagination. Create an image of yourself as the confident and self-assured person you aspire to become. When you are this person, how will you feel? How will others perceive you? What does your body language look like? How will you talk? See these clearly in your mind’s eye, with your eyes closed. Feel the feelings, experience being and seeing things from that person’s perspective. Practice doing this for 10 minutes every morning. Put on music in the background that either relaxes you, or excites you. When you are done, write a description of this person and all the attributes you’ve observed.

3. Socialize

Get out of the house or setup a lunch date with a friend. Socializing with others will give us opportunities to connect with other people, and practice our communication and interpersonal skills.

4. Do Something that Scares You

As with all skills, we get better with practice and repetition. The more often we proactively do things that scare us, the less scary these situations will seem, and eventually will be rid of that fear.

5. Do Something You Are Good At

What are you especially good at or enjoy doing? Regularly doing things that you are good at reinforces your belief in your abilities and strengths. I (Tina) can be very efficient with completing errands or administrative work. Whenever I have a few hours filled with ways in which I’ve maximized my time, I feel highly productive and this boosts the confidence have in my abilities as an organized and efficient person.

6. Set Goals

According to a study done at Virginia Tech, 80% of Americans say they don’t have goals. And the people who regularly write down their goals earn nine times as much over their lifetime as people who don’t. By setting goals that are clear and actionable, you have a clear target of where you want to be. When you take action towards that goal, you’ll build more confidence and self-esteem in your abilities to follow through.

7. Help Others Feel Good About Themselves

Help somebody or teach them something. When you help other people feel better about themselves and like themselves more, it will make you feel good about yourself. See what you can do to make others feel good or trigger them to smile. Maybe giving them a genuine compliment, helping them with something or telling them what you admire about them.

8. Get Clarity on Life Areas

Get clarity on the life area that needs the most attention. Your self-esteem is the average of your self-concept in all the major areas of your life. Write down all the major categories of your life, e.g., health, relationships, finance, etc. Then rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 in each area. Work on the lowest numbered category first, unless they are all even. Each area affects the other areas. The more you build up each area of your life, the higher your overall self-esteem.

9. Create a Plan

Having a goal alone won’t do much. Get clarity on your action items. One of the biggest reasons people get lazy is because they don’t have a plan to achieve their goals. They don’t know what the next step is and start to wander off randomly. When you’re baking a cake, it’s a lot easier to follow a set of clear instructions, than randomly throwing ingredients together.

10. Get Motivated

Read something inspirational, listen to something empowering, talk to someone who can uplift our spirits, who can motivate us to become a better person, to live more consciously, and to take proactive steps towards creating a better life for ourselves and our families.

11. Get External Compliments

As funny as this point suggests, go find a friend or family member and ask them “What do you like about me?” “What are my strengths?” or “What do you love about me?” We will often value other people’s opinions more than our own. We are the best at beating ourselves up for things not done well, and we are the worst at recognizing what we’ve done well in. Hearing from another person our strengths and positive qualities helps to build a more positive image of ourselves.

12. Affirmations & Introspection

Use affirmations, but in the right way. Some people think that when they’re in a slump, using positive affirmations will help them get out of it. I love affirmations, but I’ve realized you have to use them in the right way. Sitting on your couch and saying “I am highly motivated and productive” does nothing. Say something like “I am sitting here being very unproductive right now, is this the ideal me? What would be my best self?” Your affirmations have to be the TRUTH. Once you’re honest, take the first step towards doing the thing, no matter how small.

13. No More Comparisons

Stop comparing yourself to other people. Low-self esteem stems from the feeling of being inferior. For example, if you were the only person in the world, do you think you could have low-self esteem? Self-esteem only comes into the picture when there are other people around us and we perceive that we are inferior. Don’t worry about what your neighbor is doing. Accept that it’ll serve you more to just go down your own path at your own pace rather than to compare yourself. Pretend you’re starting over and begin immediately with the smallest step forward.

Self-esteem comes from self-dominion. The more power you have in getting yourself to take the right actions, the more self-esteem you will have. Your level of self-esteem affects your happiness and everything you do.

Tips to Being Courageous

If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything

Stand Out.  Take the hard road and embrace what people may think is impossible.  Work overtime to master personal strengths.

Light Up Someone’s Life.  Make a connection with someone to help overcome a personal challenge.  Show them you care and believe in them.

Jump Right In.  While others are standing by watching JUMP in with both feet.  Waiting for someone to lay it out for you will result in missed opportunity.  JUMP!

Speak For Those Who Can’t.  Someone who’s defenseless or just not able to communicate effectively; speak up and speak out they need your help.

Pull Your Head Out Of The Sand.  Know what you’re up against.  Rank challenges in the order of importance.  Begin to work challenges like each challenge was your first job.

Hold Your Head High.  Don’t wear your emotions on your sleeve not everyone needs to know you’re going through hard times.  Chin Up and keep looking forward.

Accept Your Truth. See it. Believe it. Start accepting your truth for what it is nothing more and nothing less.

Finish StrongSprint across the finish line.  Give all you got, push harder than you ever have and remember to give nothing less than your best.

Face your fears.  Fear creates anxiety which clouds the mind.  Take a moment and pin point your fear.  Push back, push through, seek positive outcomes and take action.

Explore Real Change.  Go places you never been.  Do things you’ve never done.  Routine is the foundation for stability but also takes you to the same places over and over again.  Leave your comfort zone and EXPLORE.

Go Back And Do The Work.  No one is perfect and our past has shaped our present.  If you want to be confident, brave, loving, charming, bold, talkative, fit, caring, and honest you have to put in the work.   Go get your LIFE back.

Focus On Your Next Step.  Keep your eye on the present but know the impact of each step.  Dare to LIVE with a clear purpose in life.

Stake Your Claim.  Fight against the status quo.  Step over the imaginary line and see who you will become.  What are you passionate about?

Rest If You Must.  But never quit. Never give in.

Stay Upbeat.  Steer clear of negative influences.  Call and hang out with friends who are upbeat, confident, and full of positive energy.

Go BIG or Go Home.  Go to the edge with creative and innovative ideas.  Find your passion and develop it by any means necessary.

How to Use Your Subconscious to Change Your Life

“Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious.” – Thomas Edison

Your subconscious loves to do work while your body performs other tasks that are easy. I can prove this very easily by asking you how many good ideas you have had while driving or in the shower. When you are relaxed yet slightly distracted, your mind is often at its best.

Using subconscious requests will…

  • Improve your motivation.
  • Help you become happier.
  • Increase your emotional intelligence.

You’ll see improvement in less than a month.

My last request was…

“Please give me more patience when commuting to work and allow me to even enjoy my time in the car.”

Within a month I was enjoying my ride to work.

My latest request is…

“Let’s find creative ways to grow my blog.”

I took this approach because it’s going to take a request to my subconscious and action in my waking life to make this happen. This request is only a few days old, but it’s already working. Instead of just asking people to help vote for my blog on social sites that rate articles such as Stumble Upon and Digg, I’ve change my communication. I now friend someone, give a compliment (only if they are worthy) and tell them that they ever need any help to shoot me a message. They are much more willing to help me out.

Mindset

My mindset is changing by setting my subconscious on a certain issue.  I start to see new angles that I’ve never seen before. This subconscious request works for personal issues as well as work related concerns.

The 3 step request only takes five minutes:

Step 1: Before you turn out the light, close your eyes and take one minute to make a request to your subconscious. It can be anything. I would start small and make it open ended. I wouldn’t request to be an astronaut by the end of the month. Your subconscious is good, but not that good.

Step 2: Take two minutes to visualize yourself actually able to do this thing. Whether it is getting the motivation to jog before work or eating a healthy snack, you must visualize yourself doing the request that you asked your subconscious. Let’s say you want to jog before work: imagine yourself getting up a few minutes earlier than usual, putting on your exercise clothes and jogging shoes, and heading out into the crisp air. Then you start jogging, watching the sun rise over the buildings, the birds chirping, and you are feeling good.

Step 3: Take two minutes to imagine the feeling that will occur when you are able to accomplish this new thing. How do you feel when you walk back in your front door after a morning jog? Energized? Whatever feeling you want to achieves imagine that you have already created this emotion inside of yourself. Let it sink in, then go to sleep and let your subconscious do the rest of the work.

Your subconscious mind wants to help you improve your life; you just have to trust its vast resources and allow it to do its thing.

Action Makes Your Request Real

You may not want to go jogging after the first subconscious request, but try to visualize yourself going through the motions the first couple of weeks. Then just start putting on your exercise gear and go for a five minute walk. Taking these baby steps will set you up for your jogging routine. Then after a few weeks just go for it. Now that you have your emotions geared toward jogging it should spur you into action.

By allowing the emotional momentum to build, you can create motivation that will help you accomplish things that make you happier.

Are You Failure..?

Are you scared of failure?

Are you scared of not succeeding or being rejected or being

humiliated? You are not alone. Millions of people around the globe are scared of failure. They fear failure. Fear of failure will hold you back from going after your dreams, from taking action to pursue the life you really want and to turn that dream into reality.

But what if I told you that failure is the only way to growth and success? What if I told you that failure is absolutely necessary in order to become good at something. What if I told you that failure is good, and failure is exactly what you need in your life in order for you to succeed?

Take a look at the Michael Jordan quote at the beginning of this chapter. If you know me and have been following my blog then you will know that this is one of my favorite quotes in the world. I share it with as many people as I can, every chance I get.

I would like to say all (but I am sure there are exceptions) successful people have failed at what they do many more times than the average person.

★ The master baker has created many failed breads and

cakes before he got to where he is.

★ Tiger Woods has hit thousands of failed shots before he

got as good as he is now.

★ Guys who are good at picking up girls have failed tens if

not hundreds of times at picking up girls.

★ Great designers have created loads of failed, ugly and

horrible designs before they got to be as good as they are now.

And so on and so forth. It is impossible to become good at something without failure. Well…failing. That’s not a nice word. Let me clarify how I see ‘failure’ and what I mean by it. I believe that you only ever truly fail when you give up. All other ‘failures’ on your journey to success are merely setbacks and lessons to learn from. To take Michael Jordan as an example. When he misses the game-winning shot, it is a failure. Not a permanent failure, because he doesn’t give up and he will keep going. That failure of missing the game-winning shot is a setback and a lesson that he can learn from in order to come closer to his goal of success (whatever his personal definition of success may be).

Failure Is Necessary for Success I can’t tell you how many times I’ve failed at something. I’ve failed dozens of times if not more at all areas where I am now good at. In order to get good with girls, I’ve been rejected dozens of times. In order to be able to cook good meals, I’ve cooked loads of flopped concoctions. In order to be good at fixing things, I’ve broken them more often that I’ve fixed them. The point that I am trying to bring across is that you should not see something as a failure even when it seems that way. It is merely a setback, a lesson to learn from. A classic example: failing a test. Just because you failed the test and got below acceptable grades, it does not mean that you are a failure. The failed test is a setback and you need to learn from it. Why did you fail? Did you study enough? Go out and do it again, and this time do it better. The more you fail at something, the better you will become if you do not give up before you become good. (one of the reasons being that you have seen so many different things that can go wrong, that you know what to do in each scenario should it present itself again). Failure Is Not Always Easy To Accept Even when you have the mindset of failure just being a setback, sometimes it can be really hard to accept and deal with failure.

Sometimes you try so hard, and it seems like you give it everything you have…and it still doesn’t work. Sometimes it seems that no matter what you do, it’s never going to work. Sometimes you will fail at something for weeks, months or even years before you finally get it right. The man who invented the vacuum cleaner for instance spent 5 years working on his invention. He built hundreds of prototypes that didn’t work. Nobody believed in him and they thought he was stupid for continuing to work on his idea. Today, I think every modern household has a vacuum cleaner. I know what it feels like that something you are working on is never going to work. There have been areas in my life that I wanted to get better at but it just didn’t work. I’ve been very demoted, quit for a few days at a time, got angry, burst out in tears, looked for answers but always carried on trying to get better. Some things took me 4 years to finally start getting the results I wanted. If I had quit during those difficult times, I would never have been able to experience success in those areas. The best advice I can give to you regarding failure is that failure is necessary to achieve success. Don’t see failure as something bad or permanent. Instead, see failure as a temporary setback and a lesson to learn from in order to do it better the next time. Be aware of the fact that you may fail at something for a very long time, sometimes longer than you can handle. Never give up!! Just keep at it, but learn from your mistakes. If something does not work when you do it a certain way,

try to approach it from a different angle. See if it works better with a different tool or method.

Sometimes People

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be (possibly your roommate, neighbour, co-worker, longest friend, lover, or even a complete stranger) but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance.
They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints in our hearts,
and We are never, ever the same.

And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realised your potential, strength, willpower, or heart. Everything happens for a reason, nothing happens by chance or by means of luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience help to create who you become.

Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

Make every day count!! Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself; it will be hard for others to believe in you.

You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets.
